Hi Folks,
We're on BUEX v8.6, waiting to upgrade to v9.0. We're waiting till v9.0 has been out awhile (and has become somewhat "stable"). Anyone advise for or against it? (My personal thought is to wait until the hold message at Veritas Support stops saying "Due to the overwhelming success of BUEX9.0, we are experiencing greatly increased hold times.")

Thanks,
johnw

We upgraded a couple months ago from BE 8.5 to 9.0. There were a few snags during the upgrade, but nothing too serious. The biggest problem was the remote agent would not install on one of the servers. With Veritas support we managed to get it working. Since then the backups have been fairly reliable. The only thing that gives frequent errors is the OFO option. However those problems are usually caused by one of a few situations, and thus are easily solveable.

I would say if you are not experiencing any issues with 8.6 and things are going really smoothly, keep waiting. If there are some features of 9.0 that you are really eager to try, then go ahead and upgrade. There isn't any huge glaring bugs that I've encountered so far. If you do upgrade, just be prepared to spend several hours on possible issues that may arise from it. We started the upgrade in the evening after work hours and didn't go home until around 9pm.

I have been using BE v9.0 for about two months, some minor issues. We backup Windows and NetWare with the Windows ver of BE v9.0 latest build. Works ok so far, easy to use. They are getting things worked out. packdragon (IS/IT--Manageme)Can you give info on what it took to get the client installed on the problem server?

The push installation of the remote agent wasn't working, so I found a Veritas technote article that said to try a manual installation instead (instructions were included). It was quite awhile back so I can't quite recall how successful that was, and if we had to do other things to get it to install. All I remember was having to copy the remote installation locally instead of installing over the network. Try searching Veritas support articles for more details.

I have tryed copying the files localy and then doing the manual install, I have looked on the site but it is not always helpfull.

Will have to spend an hour on the phone with support.

Thanks for your help.
