Btrieve File Sizes 1

I have a query re: Btrieve file sizes and would appreciate any advice you might have on this.

We use Pervasive 7 with service pack 5.

We have a file that gets a substantial amount of data added to it every day. The current size of the file is something like 2.5GB but as we are fairly early on in the year we think it's going to get a lot bigger.

My question is: Is there a limit to how big a btrieve file can get? Does anything strange start to happen once a file get to a certain size?

As long as the Btrieve file is in v7.x format, it can grow to 64 GB in size. If it's in v6.x format, it can grow to 4 GB in size. To check the file format, use the Btrieve Maintenance Utility or BUTIL -STAT on the file.

Another thing about btrieve files is that if you delete records from a file, the file remains the same size until it is rebuilt. If you are looking to save file space on your server, rebuild your files. Software Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine
