Hello,

I support an application that uses btrieve 6.15 workstation engine on a Citrix server running Windows 2000. In my test case, I have two users. I can log in one fine. When I log in the second user, I get btrieve error 20. I log out the first user and try the second user again. The second user can now log in but the first user then gets btrieve error 20. It looks to me like the workstation engine on Citrix is the problem, but I do not know enough about this application to change it to use the server engine, or if I even have the software to do so. Any ideas or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The 6.15 Workstation engine can't be used on a Citrix/Terminal Server machine. THis is because it can't create the proper log file (it tries to create two when only one should exist). The server engine should be a straight drop in replacement for the Workstation engine (unless the app makes version calls and limits itself to the WSE). You'll need to make sure the "Target Engine" setting is set correctly.
Also, remember Btrieve 6.15 is old (went unsupported in 2000 IIRC) and was last updated in late 1995/early 1996.
You might consider upgrading to Pervasive.SQL V8 (current version). It's available at

What files would we need to drop in to go from workstation engine to server engine? Also, the targetengine in the registry should be reset to 1 for server engine, correct? I have considered an upgrade, but I don't think this app could handle it. It's an old app and the company that made it is out of business.

I may have misspoke. To install the server engine, you'll need to run a Server Engine install. It's not a simple file replace. That being said, you're going to have a hard time finding a 6.15 server engine. I would suggest downloading the trial V8 engine and trying the app on it in a test environment.
