Hi,
Can anyone help please. I currently run an old app (Synthesis) which uses btrieve 6.10. The current clients are all w95 running Novells client and the database is located on a Novell 3.2 server. I am now needing to upgrade the PCs to XP and have the main server to W2K, although the app will continue to live on the Novell 3.2 server.

The problem I have is if I run the Microsoft client for Novell on the XP pc the application wails to open the DTA files. If I use the Novell client for XP all works fine. I do not really want to use the Novell client as only this app will remain on the Novell. Does any one know how to get btrieve to work with the Mocrosoft client (I load btrieve via BREQUEST).

Thanks

Kevin

Considering that Btrieve v6.10 was released well before even Windows 95 was available, I'm kind of suprised it works at all. Btrieve 6.10 used BREQUEST and WBTRCALL.DLL (at least for Windows apps) to communicate. If this is a DOS app, it might work but if it's a Windows app, it's very difficult to get working. What error are you getting with the Microsoft client? The other option would be to upgrade to a current version of Btrieve. Pervasive.SQL V8, which is the current version, will run on NetWare, Linux, and Win2000 and WInXP clients are supported (although Win95 clients are not).

The app is an old DOS app.

The error I am getting is 'BTRIEVE ERROR No Open on Help [On26/ 4/2003 @ 4: 7] From INIT'

where INIT is trying to open a help.dta file.

As I say if I go to the Novell client everything works fine. So looks like I 'll have to stick with that.

That's a strange error. I can't even tell what the Btrieve error is in that message. Do you know what Btrieve status that error maps to? That might tell us what's happening and whether there's anything else we can do.
