I have a system with no floppy drive that keeps BSODing on me. Does NT4 have a safe mode like WIn9x. The OS was set to automatically reboot so all I get is BSOD then reboot over and over, I just added RAS and rebooted so that is what is causing the BSOD. I also can't open the case because it will void my warranty. Any suggestions?

Try to boot the system in VGA mode...

The following is from MS Technet article. I did not write this:

"VGA Mode
If Windows NT does not start or if distorted or unreadable text appears on the screen, start your computer using VGA mode. By default, the Windows NT boot loader menu offers options to start normally or in VGA mode. To force Windows NT to use the standard VGA driver, choose the VGA Mode option.

If VGA mode works correctly, please see the "The Ability to Easily Change Display Settings" section in this article. If VGA mode is unsuccessful, please see the "Last Known Good Configuration" section in this article."

Thanks for the tip, but this version of the OS doesnt offer a choice for VGA mode. I all tried the last known good config option and that does not work either....

Insert the Windows NT cd-rom and try to boot to it...Maybe you can recover by using ERD information. Even though you don't have A: drive, you may be able to use %systemroot%\repair dir to get ERD info. You must have run RDISK /s at one time in the past? Anyway, even with a good ERD, I don't think it would help your blue screen situation.

When did your blue screen start happening? Did you add any hardware? Maybe you have some kind of memory problem....

What does the Blue screen message say?

The BS started right after I installed the RAS. The screen only give me about 2 seconds to read, but what i have been able to make out is this... KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED, a bunch of HEX before and after. The last thing on the line with the above error is tcpip.sys.

Based on the information you supplied, I think this related to you problem...

However, I think it will be challanging to resolve without an A: drive. You may have to install an A: drive first and then work on the resolve. Or you may want to create a parrallel install on NT so that you can copy files to the corrupted system.

Good Luck!! Joseph L. Poandl
