I have recently deployed sbs 2008 in a test setup. The installation by default created a sharepoint site called "companyweb" on the server. Clients can access this site fine. However, if a website is created on another machine (Vista) on the network, this siteis not accessible from the other cleints on the network, even though I can ping.

This doesn't seem to be an SBS question, rather a question of "How do I publish a web site on Vista?", is my assessment correct?

If you check your DNS you will find that CompanyWeb is registered there. Clients should be able to view the site created on Vista if they browse to or if you add the site as a host entry in your DNS.

You will need to ensure that port 80 is open on the Windows Firewall as well.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark

Thanks Mark. I will double check the DNS.
Before this, I had a standard 2008 domain and everything worked fine. Then I created a new domain with new DNS and made the clients join the new domain. I cannot hit the site using IP either, so it led me to believe it was some sort of SBS security issue.I looked at the domain group policy and did not see anythinng enabled there.
