I'm trying to set up a SQUID proxy, one of the requisites is to browse the internet from the proxy however I can't do this for some reason.

My gateway is set and I can ping from the shell prompt however I receive an 'operation timed out' error when I type the URL into mozilla.

My eth0 interface is working properly and i can ping everything on the network. I also have a route added to the gateway. Does anyone have a solution to this conundrum?

Thanks,

The fact that you can ping by address would make one suspect a dns issue first....

Thanks for that, how would I get around it though? I have the correct IP addresses of our DNS servers set in the network configuration box, do I need to open ports or run other services for my machine to communicate with our DNS servers correctly? Or would this point to a problem with our DNS servers?

Thanks

At the time it may have been a problem with the ISP end somewhere along hte line. The only other thing I can think of is your DNS settings, the best advice I can give you buddy is check everything and check again.

Cheers,
