I have 4 computers on a small network, 3 desktops running Win 2k Pro. and a laptop running XP Pro.
I have the website in both my IE6 and Foxfire favorites folders and I usually refer to it daily. Today, I am unable to access that site from my gateway computer (Win. 2k Pro) but can access it from the other computers. When I double click on the address from my favorites I don't get a 404 message, the browser just sits and finally times out. I have tried typing in the numeric web address and the text address directly into the address bar and neither address connects. As far as I know no other web addresses are affected.
Since I can ping the site successfully from a command window and the problem is present in both browsers I'm led to believe that the problem is occurring somewhere in the OS. I emptied the Recycle bins and cleared temporary file folders for all user accounts (problem is present for all users). I also ran AdAware and Spybot Search and Destroy on the off chance that I had picked up a trojan somewhere. None of this helped.
I'm stymied. If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear from you.
TIA
