browsers using memory

This question may be more browser-related, however here it is:

Why do firefox and opera continue to use more and more memory as they remain open longer periods of time?

I can understand how browsers would use more memory with more tabs open, but a firefox browser with 2 open tabs might keep growing in its memory consumption to 150-200 Mb over a few hours.

I may not have defined this sufficiently, but maybe somebody has some ideas...

Thanks linney, I read the piece and installed the flashblock plugin, we will see what that does. The article says that 100-150 Mb memory usage over time is normal, but if I can prevent flash ads from contributing to that total, maybe that will help.
