Browser Window Does Not Restore From Taskbar

I am running IE6.0.29 windows xp sp2

If I minimize a browser window, when I click the icon on the taskbar, the IE session does not restore (maximize) properly. It starts the animation like it's going to restore but the window never appears. The only way I can view the window is to minimize other windows until the one I want appears.

This does not happen to all IE windows - but I have not been able to figure out a pattern.

If I try to open the window by using alt-tab (cycling through the windows), the same problem occurs.

Anybody have any ideas?
