I have set up apache to do httpd.conf authentication, and all is working as long as I login twice. When I visit the secured page, I am asked to login, after entering the user name and password and hitting OK, the login asks again (as if I made a mistake), I key in the same information and it lets me in. I have tried this on 2 windows machines (running IE 6) and a Linux machine.

Double-check that the realm and the url is *exactly* the same on both login dialogues. I find that this happens if I access my SSL site using a name other than it's "official" hostname.

Thanks, you are correct - for some reason it does not look like it is changing, but after it accepts, it drops the the URL. If I do not include the www, I only get asked once. To overcome this, I added a DNS entry to protected.myhost.com and I no longer get asked twice.
