Browser accessing Notes mail gives <applets> not found

Hi,
I'm running Domino Server 5 on NT Server 4 (SP6). I'm trying to provide access to user's mail via a web browser. I currently can log in to notes via the client, but on doing so, certain screen elements are not rendered in the browser & when the cursor is passed over them return
messages such as:
load: class lotus.notes.apps.viewapplet.Viewapplet not found

There are 2 more: actionbar & outlineapplet.

I get the full view when I'm logged in to Notes as administrator & use the Notes browser (IE 4).

I have put all the java stuff from the server in the classpath on the client machine.

Any ideas?
