Here's one for the propellerheads.

I have a client who is using a Solaris Server with a Universe database and an Apache web server. (All unix based as I am led to believe.)

There is only one server (at the head office) where the entire company's data is stored. Each branch is connected with a 64k diginet line.

When users want to access the corporate database, they do so from their Win95 / Win98 PC's via their web browser.

Apparently, they do not use TCP/IP as a protocol (I was told what they use, but cannot remember what it was.) The client does NOT wish to install TCP/IP on any of the PC's for security reasons. I thought that TCP/IP was a neccessity when browsing ???

A problem now arises when they wish to use a WINDOWS based application of mine that requires a login manager (and user database) to be active at a location that is accessible for all users.
Any upgrades / changes must be distibuted to users automatically on login.

The question is then - Can I install the neccessary application (AND access it) without TCP/IP running ?

You need NetBIOS for Windows-based browsing not IP. I don't know a lot about Solaris (or UNIX in general) but it seems pretty odd they wouldn't use IP on mixed Unix/Windows network, what does the web browser run on they access their corporare DB with?

Not really sure about your application (how you access it and when you talk about user database are you talking about SAM or AD or an application-specific user database?). I would imagine it wouldn't be easy though...
