I've setup an IIS server on my network but can't browse it using the IP address. Seems to work fine when using the machine name. What am I missing here? IIS was 'installed' a couple of times by others before I installed it. I've looked at docs on the net and there does not seem to be anything I missed.

Is it possible the IP address allocated to the machine name is not the same as that on your server?

I've had the website's address the same as the computers IP and had the website's address set to "All Unassigned." Neither works when I try to browse using the IP address. No problem if I use the machine name.

How are you trying to browse?

Like this: \\192.168.1.X ?

Yes, and all the other forms I can think of.

What happens when you try to browse from the IIS server itself using

Also, ensure you are not using host headers. If you are, is the IP listed in the host headers list?

The "Webpage Can Not Be Found" page is displayed. I've used and not used host headers. The IP is/was in the list.
