browse Appleshares on remote VPN

I have 2 Netgear FVS318 routers and a VPN connection between 2 Mac OSX networks.

1 network on 192.168..0.X mask 255.255.255.0
the other on 192.168.2.X mask 255.255.255.0

I can connect to Appleshares if I enter the exact IP of the remote machine but I am unable to browse the remote network for Appleshares ???

Any ideas why not ? anything to do with the masks ? should it be 255.255.0.0 on each network ?

Tried to change the mask but the Netgear router comes up with an error saying cant be on same subnet as remote network ?

Any help appreciated
