Problems printing from Microsoft MapPoint to a Brother HL-1440 printer under Windows XP
If you are running Windows XP and are having problems printing to a Brother HL-1440 Laser printer from some applications, I might have the work around for you.
My company has experienced a problem printing from Microsoft MapPoint and Lilly Software Visual Manufacturing to a Brother HL-1440, under Windows XP.
The characters on the printed paper are upside down and reversed. We have not yet experienced this problem with any other software.
Changing the printer driver from the native Windows XP Brother driver to the latest version on there web site had no affect on this problem. All attempted configuration changes made to the Brother HL-1440 driver properties had not affect.
The only think that resolved this problem was to install the printer as if it were an HP LaserJet 6L. I have literally tried all native XP HP LaserJet drivers with this printer with miserable results. The only one that worked perfectly was the HP LaserJet 6L.
I found extremely limited information about this problem on the internet. Hopefully this will help some one having the same problem. If nothing else, you now know that you can use the Brother HL-1440 Laser printer with HP LaserJet 6L drivers, with out any problems.
Additionally, although I have experienced this problem with Lilly Software Visual Manufacturing, it was only cretin portions of the application that produced these problems. The rest of the program printed correctly with the default Brother HL-1440 Drivers that are native to XP. This makes since, because the program is modular. Each section is compiled into its own executable. So while you might experience a problem with one module, you likely will not with another one.
