My friend has recently bought a Belkin Wireless G Modem Router (Part No F5D7632uk4A).

Everything's plugged in correctly as far as he can see but the main PC is showing "network cable disconnected". The laptop PC, however, can see the wireless network. Both PC and laptop are running Windows XP Home.

I can't work out how this can be - can you shed any light ?

If you need more info, please just ask and I will get it.

Regards,
Jay

in the router settings check that it is using DHCP
on the main machine check it is set to a client of dhcp auto detect
insure the cable is plug in to main machine and one of the connections on the router and has no damage

good luck

Stand up wherever you are, go to the nearest window and yell as loud as you can, 'I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore.'

Not sure if the Belkin will auto-switch, but make sure you're not using a crossover cable to connect PC to router. Also worth trying a different cable, and a different port on the router.

In the event of the user having no other devices to check with, enable the "Show icon in notification area when connected" on the "Local Area Connection Properties" page, temporarily disable wireless on the laptop and plug it into the router using the cable previously connected to the main PC. This will prove whether the router's ethernet port and cable are working or not.
