Greetings all,

I've got an HP1300 that no longer feeds paper thru correctly rather it mangles them and smears toner along one side. I believe the cause is the roller in the very back of it (before the paper comes out) is damaged. It appears to have a covering on it that is torn (a piece of it has shown up in the output area) and clicks like a card in a bicycle wheel when printing.

I'm pretty useful with a hammer and a screwdriver so is this something that I can replace rather than take to a repair shop and if so what is the part called? The "manual" is useless and I can't see how to take the case apart without damaging it. Where might I find a procedure to do so?

Also, what might have caused the damage in the first place? We tend to use and abuse it so might it be heat related?

Thanks in advance.

I had a similar problem with an HP2100. The best advice I can give is to try and find the Service Manual on the Internet which will give you a step-by-step guide to taking the printer apart, and will provide part numbers for each component. With the part number you could order a replacement.

As for the cause? You might find something when you open up the printer.

Service manual. Right... why didn't I think of that? I dl'd a copy and I think I found the problem and the way to fix it. Thanks!

Now where did I leave my hammer....

Fuser...

Have a nice day today, and a better day tomorrow!!!
