Broken Glass

I am not sure if this is the correct place to be but I am working on making an image for my band. I want to use gimp but I am not sure how to make the image that I want. (of course a BIG problem). I want to make the word "Broken" break through glass and have the shards of glass fly at the screen (no animation) Can anyone help of refer me to a website that could assit me? thx

Well, why not?

1. Break a piece of glass into several pieces.

2. Photograph the pieces (preferably with a digital camera, so you don't have to scan them). Place them in on a neutral color, such as a grey cloth, and experiment with different light reflections on the glass.

3. Create the word "Broken" in Gimp however you want, then import all the pictures of glass shards, each as its own layer, and manipulate them around in front of the image until you get the effect you want. Remember, if you want more tiny pieces, you can break one of the larger pieces again, and photograph the little pieces. -------------------------------------------
