So I had a SharePoint site running on my 2003 enterprise server. Then I installed Active Directory.

Now if I navigate to the SharePoint site, i get a page that says "Service Unavailable". IIS and SharePoint services are running.

Anyone know what happened?

Thanks,
Rob

This is a known issue. Microsoft's recommendation is uninstall IIS and SharePoint from the server before making it a DC, and then reinstalling IIS and SharePoint after the promotion. What I have not seen is what you are supposed to do if you already promoted the server. I would demote the server, and then follow the MS recommendation.

I'm on to other things here, but I did get around this problem -

I eventually took AD down on this server, but I was able to get back into the sharepoint before that was done.

I'm pretty sure I had to do 2 things to get the site back.

first, I had to tweak the identity of the application pool until i got a page that said, "access denied," (more enourageing than "service unavailable" - then I used stsadm.exe to update credentials or something like that. that did the trick.

Then I had to do this all over again when AD was uninstalled.
