it seems my NIC card is flaking out. it will connect (manually) to the internet but cannot find my network.

i have searched and found there seems to be a problem with these cards but no recent solutions.

anyone here having this problem?

p.s. it is on a Dell 2350 system

I dont know about that, but you can buy new ones for around $10US and used ones 3 for $10. Not trying to be snarky here at all, its just that its not worth messing around with. If you suspect your nic is on the way out, get another one and try it out and you will know for sure.

was going to get a new linksys anyway, but i am trying to get the wife's pc running via phone as i am out of town right now.

thanks for the reply anyway.

What you can do is go to the nic in dev mgr, delete it and reboot so windows can find it again, that may solve your problem.

been there done that.

it then says "found new hardware" and it lists BSFND or something similar, as the hardware but it is actually a dll.

there was info about this problem a couple of years old on Broadcom's forum but nothing recent.

Have you tried going to the support section of the Dell website, putting in the System ID number from the cover of the PC and seeing if any new Broadcom network drivers are available? While I'm not a huge fan of Dell machines, they do have a pretty good support structure and they generally have updated drivers even for machines that are several years old.

Ummm... Let me clarify my Dell comment... Out of the box, I've never had a serious problem. But where I work, we tend to push the envelope and rig the machines to do things they were never really meant to do. IMHO, once you start putting non-Dell certified cards in the machine, you're in for the adventure of a lifetime!
