Hi
Anyone know why an IPO would initiate a broadcast storm, using the TFTP Protocol?
Looking ate the wireshark trace it goes demented.
It brings down the customer CCTV network, and other network opertaions too.
Generally happens early in the morning, but the trace I am looking at now was 09:56

Its a 406 running 4.2, I thinks with VM Pro
It broadcasts using src port 4096 and destination 69 (TFTP)

Would something else on the network cause the IPO to do this?
Cheers :)

TFTP is used to transfer the config,
it can also be used by the Voicemail, Delta Server & some other apps

Have you specified IP addresses for all of the various services (VM, Time server, tftp server, file writer, license server)
or have they been left in defaults?

if any of these are defaults they could be the cause of your broadcasts.

I do not Have A.D.D. im just easily, Hey look a Squirrel!

I have pointed the Time server and TFTP server addresses to specific machines. The VM server and license server alsready had single IP Addresses.
Now just have to wait and see :)

The system is 3.2, BTW not the 4.2 I stated above

Do you use phone manager or softconsole?
You really should use vlans and put the ipoffice and stuff on a vlan.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Phone Manager and soft console are both in use.
Thing is this has be fine for years

This prompts the question what has been added or changed recently?

Both phone manager and softcosole use tftp for updating the BLF fields.
Are you sure it is not something else that causes the broadcast storm?
Avaya once told me that a broadcast for BLF only is about 1 or 2 kb.

The source address in Wireshark is def the address of the IPO.
All the packets are exactly 60 bytes

60 bytes will not bring a network down at all!!!
But still it whould have it's own vlan.
This would have saved you from telling them it is not the IP Office :)

i moved my IPO to a separate VLAN about 2 months ago. there were some issues with caller ID after the move, but they have been resolved. but putting that POS on its own vlan so it can just sit there and scream at the other device on the VLAN (the voicemail server) is the best thing i couldve done for my network. i kept getting collisions on that switchport- Avaya informed me that the ipo 406 is A HUB! nice!

Garbage!

Beets? Yes! Ask me how I feel about Beets! I like Beets!

>Avaya informed me that the ipo 406 is A HUB! nice

Wrong - an IP 406V1 is a hub. the V2 is a switch (and a quick look at your other posts suggests you have a v2)

>it can just sit there and scream at the other device on the VLAN (the voicemail server) is the best thing i couldve done for my network

The alternative solution might be to configure it correctly!
