I think I know the answer to this but since my boss asked me to check...
My company has 2 Aria 350s and 2 Aria 250s all networked using OctelNet and Namenet across our Wan.

Is it possible to send a broadcast message across networked Octels? Right now when we want to send out an all employee message the person that wants to send the message logs in to the system manager mailbox on each server and sends the message.

What we would like to do is to record the message once and have the message sent to all user mailboxes (Type 0).

We have around 10000 mailboxes so distribution lists would be hard to maintain.

I'm fairly certain there is no way to do this as a true broadcast message, but we haven't explored this in several years, so maybe something has changed. Asside from that does anyone have a suggestion to do it a different way?

I'm considering writing a script in Procomm Plus to create the distribution lists, but I'm concerned about message light issues and any users added since the script ran would miss out on the message.

Any help or suggetsions are appreciated.

You can't send a system broadcast to a network mailbox. However, you can use a Bulletin mailbox. You will need to add the Bulletin mailbox to each subscriber, or use a community Bulletin mailbox. This is an optional feature that you may have to purchase. I would recomend this before using a distribution list.

The other thing you might look at is using an OctelDesigner application to send the message out to the other Octel systems as well as email addresses or cell phones and Black Berry devices. Of course you still run into the problem of mantaining the list, but it may be easier doing it within the realm of one system. I know that Mutare has an application written to do large notifications ( and the company I work for writes these applications as well.

You could also use a nework message system to hold all of the lists and that way you can have all of the lists in one place. but your best bet may be the broadcast. you can add a broadcast to a system list from a remote node and send to all at the same time.

can u let me know how to do a broadcast over aria system? i wanted to broadcast to all users in 1 aria system. i heard that i can record over the system manager mailbox. can you give me more information on how to do it?

login to the system manager MB and tke option 9 it will prompt you for system broadcast message and it can only be 60 sec long all users will be forced to hear it.

Avaya has a Message Networking product (next gen of Interchange) that acts as a hub for Avaya-branded voicemail systems and other devices that can use AMIS or VPIM/SMTP networking. This device can house distribution lists that encompass all connected devices. Build a bulletin mailbox on each system, put the bulletin in the profile of each mailbox, create a list with all bulletin mailboxes, send to that list and everybody gets the message.

Granted, this is probably overkill for your situation, but it works well for my company (350 networked VM systems, point-to-point networking would be a bit cumbersome!!!)
