This may be a little off-topic, so apologies for that, but I've just got 600k broadband (from NTL as I'm in the UK) under the assumption that I'd be able to download a heck of a lot faster than previously.

My speeds have gone up if I do regular downloads, but if I go on Kazaa I'm downloading at the same speeds as before. Does this mean I'm relying on other people's connections rather than my own or how does it work?

Cheers.

Kazaa relies on other people's upload speeds. That said, you should still a speed increase (depending on the connection of the person you're downloading from).

Remember, NTL's (and other) 600k connection is 600 kiloBITS per second, which equals 75 kiloBYTES per second (before network overhead).

Windows usually gives download speeds in kilobytes, which can be a source of confusion.
