If the host computer on a small cable modem ICS network is shutdown,will clients still be able to connect to the internet via the modem?Or will the host need to be on at all times?Thank you.
 
I assume you mean a modem that each client has on their machine.

This is treated as a seperate TCP/IP device, and the settings for the NIC adapters for ICS has no bearing on their ability to use their modem.
 
if you are using ICS and the ICS server is down, the internet is down for all, one reason we all reccomend hardware routers.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
 
What specific router would you recommend for a home environment?
 
if your cable modem uses an ethernet connection. then most of the basic routers will do the job...

d-link / belkin / linksys / netgear - they're all reasonably cheap and fairly easy to set up.
