Hi, I'm looking for any tips about a possible cause of a problem I have here.

I am using a 1Mb B/B connection here at home, with 2 PC's although I have only one connection and one PC online at a time. (I'm using a USB modem which I switch from one PC to the other).

One of the PC's connections speeds is fine, I'm getting D/L speeds of say 80-100 KBPS, the other is wayyyy slower say 10-15 KBPS, and that is accessing the same server!

I've run sone DSL speed tests from the slow PC and I'm getting a speed of about 130, ie a long way under a meg.

I've never really tinkered with connection speeds before so any suggestions would be helpful to get me started.

I'm running an AMD 2GHz processor, 80GB HD, Win XP Pro, and it worked fine in my old house! It's not the system spec at least, but something is obviously set wrong, possibly during a recent windowss reinstallation...

Thanks, Lusp

1) I strongly suspect this is going to be a USB error and engourage you to use ethernet, ideally with a router so everyone can be online at once.

2) the tweak test at may find some Windows settings to tweak, although XP Pro is not as badly set up as earier versions.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

I agree with Jimbopalmer! Stay away from usb. Most modem vendors include a nic with the modem.
