Good morning all,

I'm currently attempting to tidy up our office database and need a little assistance.

We have an autonumber field that is used as an ID number field but due to various reasons, over a period of time this number no longer matches the actual number of records. E.g. ID shows 2873 records but the record count box at the bottom of the window shows only 2856 records.

I'd like to bring these two figures back into line but am struggling to think of a straightforward way of doing this. All I can think of is that I need to break the Autonumber field, insert a bundle of blank records and restart the Autonumber field. Maybe it's just Monday, but any suggestions?

Just for the record once I've done this I'm going to insert a bit of code to check that they match every time so that this doesn't happen again.

Thanks in advance.

Aha, thanks for the info Remou. Although I'm not particularly interested in the number being sequential it certainly does appear that to bring the two numbers into line would be a real pain to do and to still use the autonumber field as the ID.

Hmm...on that basis I think I'm going to let this issue lie for now and deal with some of the other issues on this database.

Thanks for the assistance.
