I'm currently running two servers both NetWare versions on NetWare 5.1. 100MB 1/2 Duplex (because of CAIs problem at full duplex)

==ARCServeIT 6.6
PowerEdge Server 4300 (1GB RAM)
PowerVault 130T
==BrightStore 7.0
PowerEdge Server 4100/200 (512MBS ram)
PowerVault 120T
GroupWise agents being used by this server for backing up our GroupWise 6 system.

We're thinking going to BrightStore 9. Does anyone know if it supports (maybe I should said REALLY SUPPORTS) full duplex yet? Also has anyone run it on Gig copper? We're thinking of moving all the servers to GIG copper or the least to add a gig card to the servers and run a dedicated BACKUP backbone at 1,000MBs full duplex.

We run our NW5.1 SP5 servers at 100Mb Full Duplex and don't have a problem with backups - we are using Arcserve 7 (fully patched) and NWAgent (again fully patched).

If you do experience issues using full duplex, you must ensure that both switch port and server are forced to 100Mb Full Duplex and one or the other is not auto negotiating. This is the only scenario I have experienced problems with backups and full duplex.

We've verified the speeds and duplex settings in the past and (per their techs) had to remove auto negotiation from the switches and cards and lower them to 100 1/2 duplex. The ARCServe servers would just "drop" the target servers mid backup for no reason. We don't have the NWAgent tho. hmmmm. That might be something we would have to look into. I'm not familiar with that, only with the BOFA and GW open file agents.
