Hello folks !!

I've buy one units of the iomega REV devices . I'm Using the ATAPI one with Brighstor V11 with the "CA FSAdapter" (the Computer Associate File System Adapter) only way to use the REV Device with Brighstor.

All is wonderfull !!!

The Backup are very quick and Brightstor work very well.

But

Today I'm trying to restore a little Excel File with the good "TAPE" in the Unit and :

Brighstore is waiting the "SEQUENCE 2" of this ""TAPE" !!!!
+ Warning3896 and 3884
and a Error 3051

But actualy the REV device got all the data backuped and, in fact, there is ONLY ONE device "TAPE" by night, so all the data are on it.

a litle precision : In my Job I backup a large Server (around 50 Go), two little servers (around 2Go) each and my exchange server with the good agents for all.

My "TAPE" is erased before the beginning of the Job

I think that my problem comes with the kind of media : The File system device.

Anyone got the same configuration ?????
Anyone use the Files system Devices to backup and restore ??
anyone use the OMEGA's Rev to backup ???
How to force the sequence on a tape

Anyone can help me ????

Lataupe need help......

It might be a database problem.

Try are restore by media and put in a filter for the file.

This method does not use the database.

Can you post a directory listing of the files on the Iomega disk? Spanning is not supported on File System devices, so I'm not sure why it would be asking for another sequence?...

The job requests a seq. 2 tape because it can not find the session on the seq. 1 tape.

I have the Same exact configuration with the iomega rev as a file system device and I am having the SAME EXACT problem.
Please let me know if you found a solution to this.

Are you using the Iomega OEM version of ARCserve?

If you are running the regular release version of 11.0 then update to 11.1 first.

11.0 updates
QO60378 154.3 MB 10/07/04 NT -BRIGHTSTOR ARCSERVE BACKUP r11.1 UPDATE - ENG

11.1 updates
QO59767 11.0 MB 09/15/04 NT -BAB R11.1 DEVICE SUPPORT UPDATE 1
QO62769 32.8 MB 12/30/04 NT -SECURITY UPDATE FOR ARCSERVE DISCOVERY SERVICE

No. The Iomega version of Arcserve is available only with the purchase of the iomega rev library. I have the standalone drive so there is no special version that CA will give me. I have version 11.1 with all the updates including the newest certified device list. Still the same problem

Did anyone get that issue figured out yet? I am having the same problem

This is not a question for everyone it is a question for lataupe, since he is the one with the problem.

Someone gave me rev drive to test out and I'm not having any problem at all, and I"m also used standard ARCserve 11.1.

Try the Restort by Backup Media, and use a filter for the file you want. If that works then it is a database problem.

The question is for ANYONE who has the same problem! That's the whole point of these forums. And if ANYONE finds the answer, they should post it here.

Restore by backup media takes too long. It will take over an hour to restore a 1 MB file from over 50GB of compressed data using this method. The filter forces a search through all of the compressed files. If the database wasn't corrupt then there would be no need for this. The problem is that the database gets corrupted when writing header and catalog information using rev drive. And from what I understand the problem is limited only to session 2. I have sent this problem to CA almost a month ago and still havn't heard anything from them.

Drasolko you must be new to Tek-Tips, but the reality is there is for the most part a handful of people who reply to all the treads.

Restore by Medea is an easy way to tell if the problem is related to the database. If you would have provided more details to begin with there would have been no need to make the suggestion.

Since I don't have the problem and can backup and restore just fine from sessions 2 and 3 with my Rev drive I will not waste any more of your time.

I have restored using a REV drive , being hanging of a SCSI card, and be it the restore was to a new location but it all worked.
To get Arcserve to work properly you CORRECTLY need to upgrade Brightstore to 11.1 first then using the CD that came with the REV drive install the driver. U dont need to use it as a File System.
Mine works fine and dandy....
Hope this helps.
P.S.
This is running on 2003 server.
