I'm having some problem restoring our Exchange 5.5 using Brightstor v9. It's giving me an error E8605, saying invalid username and password. I was able to restore from the old version Arcserve 6.61 using the same domain username. I have all the rights setup correctly and it even writes the debug file.

I have an open ticket with CA but we have been going back and forth for more than 2 weeks now. I've emailed them about 10 trace files already but still having no luck. Any one who has experienced the same problem or any ideas, please share the knowledge.

By the way, I'm doing a full restore not brick level.

Thank you,

Jeff

Jeff,
Can you provide some background:
Why are you restoring exchange?
Is this to the same or remote server?
Did you re-install exchange?
Is the exchange the same SP level if re-installed?
Is exchange the same name even case sensitive?
Are all exchange services stopped apart from System Attendant?
Is the Backup Agent RPC Server Service running?
Have you tried a local administrator account?
Ensure you have the correct rights as per

I'm restoring this on a test network. It's exact duplicate of our live network. I've used one of the bdc's from the live network and promoted it to pdc once I've isolated it.

It was basically a practice restore but now we are in urgent need to restore a mailbox from 2 months ago.

I've basically setup a new server Exchange 5.5 sp4 server on the test network with the same Org, Site, name as the live network. (Exact duplicate of the live network)

Yes, all services are stopped except for system attendant and backup agent is running.

When you say local account, are you talking about the backup server local account or the Exchange server local account? I did try the local Exchange administrator account. As for the rights, yes, I do have the correct rights.

I appreciate your reply. Any other ideas will help. I'm getting a little frustrated with CA support.

Thanks again,
Jeff
