Hi all

I have a problem with a server and a backup-program Brightstor v9.0 build 2020
We use it to backup a server on a remote location, with a DLT 40/80 drive and all backups go fine, apart from the error messages on open files, but when they don't want to buy the open file agent, than that's their own responsibility.
backup program and an exhange-agent is installed.

the problem is when we want to restore a single file from a specific session or tape, we cannot select it.
I can start restore, and select a complete session and restore it to a location, but not the single file.

All backup's are full backups, and we use filtering for some of the open files and the pagefile.sys from our backup.
In the past we have been able to restore single files, but how (and exactly when) this ability disapeared we don't know.
Pruning runs every day, the database-file's span about 900 MB, the log-file is 4 Gb.
We have tried several options but I will start with a blank.
Brightstore site doesn't seem to have info on this exact error.

The job and server are on a remote location, so I cannot easily test all settings, maybe one at a day, but I welcome all input.
It's a working configuration, so solution and idea's I need must be based.
In case of an error or lost data on the server we should still be able to restore data, preferably a single file, but if necessary still from a complete session.

If more data or specific data is needed, I'll supply it a.s.a.p.

Thanks for all input.

Patrick

Inside the job setup on the options screen, check the operation tab, database setting. If it is set to detail, the database will record down to the file level of all backups. If not, you have to merge the tape to see the files. So, for this restore, go to utilities, merge. You can select to merge a single session or the entire tape. Wait a few minutes (or longer depending on how many files)after the restore is done. Close the restore screen (it will not refresh automatically) and go back into it. The files should list.

Good luck,
Debi

Hello Debi

thank you for your answer, but unfortunately, I still can't see any files.
I've checked, and the option is allready set to Record Detail Information

I've also followed the Restore and merge option you described, and choose the first session (C:\ partition) to be merged, but no files appear to choose from.
From the additional info I see that the backup is 12.496.484 kbytes and 35.132 files

If you have anymore idea's they're welcome.

Patrick

Maybe your database is corrupted. Go into server admin and initialize your databases. Then try the merge again.

Hi DebiJo,

I've done this on friday, but was unable to check it until this morning.
The Merge hasn't supplied any information about the backup, and the backup itself has also no file-information.

I have seen this before, even after merging, there was incomplete session details or completely empty.....I had to completely clean out the install of Arcserve 11.1 and do a re-install----now merging details correctly
