Currently I have a Lynksys 802.11b access point.
2 desktops are connecting to it via PC cards with PCI adapters.

One of my machines is acting up.

Is it possible to get 2 wireless AP/routers, configure them in AD Hoc mode so they act a a bridge, then just run cat 5 into the access point closer to the office that needs the computers? Then I can just use standard Nics???

Can anyone recommend any routers that can do this? Will standard SMC or Linksys do this or do I have to go the Cisco route?

Matt

If at least one of the PCI wireless adapters is not having issues, you can rule out the WAP11 as the problem.

1. Start by updating the firmware on all wireless devices
2. Check all settings carefully, including possibly changing the channel used for all devices
3. If Windows XP, apply:
If the problem remains unresolved by one machine:
4. Replace the faulty machine adapter with a USB-based adapter instead of the PCI

Other possibilities:

. Replace both PCI adapters with USB 54G adapters, and do an ad hoc network link between the two computers without an access point at all
. Add a second WAP11 and two inexpensive switch boxes. Place the second WAP11 in client mode, use standard ethernet adapters and drop cables to the switches. If you feel comfortable with it, you can easily find WAP11s on e-bay for $15.

My concern about your proposed solution is that few, if any, Wireless routers support bridge mode.
