Hi all,

I need some help on Cisco 1721 and Cisco 805 routers configuration.

My network setup is this. At head office I have the Cisco 1721 central router, and at the 6 remote branches I have the Cisco 805 routers. All routers are connected with frame relay lines.

My problem is this, I need to configure the routers to work as brouters so they route the IP traffic and bridge the netbeui traffic from branches LAN’s to head office LAN. The reason is that the cash drawers’ software at the remote branches works with NT4 netbeui protocol, where the CCTV software at remote branches works with TCP/IP.

After some reading, I found that I need to use IRB bridging in my case, in order to be able to bridge some protocols (netbeui) and route some other protocols (IP).

I have tried different things, but the only think that I manage until now is to have bringing between remote branches and head office working. With IP routing I have problems I didn’t manage yet to make it work.

I’m confused on how to configure my routers with BVI, bridge-groups, no bridge x route IP ….. so be able to route and bridge ……..

I will be grateful if some one could help!!!!!!!!!!

It sounds like what you need is CRB.

Does the cash drawer software need to communicate with an IP device at the head office?

No, the cash drawers at remote branches use netbeui protocol (\\server name) to communicate with the server at head office.

Thanks for the reply.....

Why don't use just modify their lmhosts file to put in the server name to it's IP.

I.E.

C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\LMHOSTS.SAM

You can then ditch netBUI
