OK - using arcserve 2000 with exchange upgrade - back everything up fine except at the brick level it seem s to randomly report that certain messages cannot be found - have checked mailboxes and they are there.

Spoke to ca and they suggested running a job with just the brick level selected and nothing else. Tried that and had same result.

Any idesa

Rigsby,

Will you be kind enough to post the exact error msg as you see it in the Activity log??

Pls specify the versions of the softwares being used.

MESSAGE READS:
104 w3404 Unable to open file (File=M:\[domain]\public folders\UNdeliverable mail%3a SSD_xf8ff_[subject].eml, EC=FILE NOT FOUND

Using ARCserve 2000 with exchange client sp4 with w2k server sp3, exchange 2000 sp2.

Also looking at the job there is two areas where the individual mailboxes can be select under the M: directory (on the my computer root) and the arcserve brick level - do I select one or both?

Thanks for the help.

Rigsby,

First off.. this error is not a brick level error.

second, this error seems to occur on the M:\ drive created
when exchange 2000 is installed...

AS per Microsoft, you are not supposed to backup\scan this drive as it might corrupt the IS. Ref: Q298924

please set an exclusion filter on the job to exclude the
M: drive from being backed up..

But this is where the mailboxes and publis folder info store is - wont this cause problems if I had to do a restore as the drive would not be there?

No. What you see there is just a virtual pointer the mailboxes...

you wont have any kinda problem when you restore....

TAKE MY WORD FOR IT :)

OK Spesh - tried back up last night and backed up:

c:
D:
Exchange M: (not selected as you said)
Registry
Microsoft Information Store
System State
Microsoft Exchange Server Brick level.

Seemed to go through in 3.5 hours rahter thatn the normal 9 also when I tried to do a test restore in would only see down as far as inbox, sent, deleted etc. and not the brick-level individual message. Any ideas?

ARCserve can not go any further than folder level, this by design.

regards

Rigsby,

When you say m: is "not selected" do you mean that you have unselected it, or you used a filter? I would suggest using a filter rather than unselecting the m: drive.

Matt

To answer the questions - I will try to use filter

But arcserve shoudl be able to restore individual mail items - I have the exchange agent
