I have a BRI port that I am going to install into a cisco 1601 router. The router currently has two other interfaces in use.
1. eth0 (local network ethernet)
2. serial 0 (Frame relay to corp. office)

I would like to install the BRI port for local ISDN internet access. I am going to connect to a local ISP using PPP. My question is can I route packets using the BRI port. I have a firewall that needs to sit in front of the BRI port (Can the firewall then be accesed from the local ethernet via the BRI port? The firewall will run NAT. Can I route packets from eth0 to the BRI port and out to the internet.

Or does the firewall have to sit in front of eth0. ?

Any help, suggestion or ideas would be helpful

Thank you

-Danny

Certainly can route packets to the BRI port. It works very well aside from the speed limit of ISDN. And yes, you can route the packets from the E0 to the BRI0 port without much trouble at all.

The ISDN link is just another link as far as the router is concerned with will work fine with the firewall. You may need to twiddle some of the timeouts that ISDN has since it's basicly a dial up on demand line. Although some are full time up.
