I just assembled my brand new computer and its not working. When I turn it on, my lcd shows no signs of activity and goes into power-saving mode within seconds. My LCD doesn't have the usual signs that it has when not plugged into the computer though. This is a list of parts I used for this computer:

Case from my old computer
PSU from my old computer (Ultra X-Connect 500 Watt Modular Power Supply)
Monitor from my old computer (Dell 20 inch 2005FPW Widescreen LCD Monitor)
Brand New Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9
Brand New AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Processor
Brand New Zalman CNPS7000B-AlCu Heatsink Fan
Brand New Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 SATA 200Gb Hard Drive (ST3200822AS)
Brand New Geil DDR400 PC3200 2Gb (1Gb x2) 184 pin Dual Channel Memory
Second Hand (Tested) BFG Geforce 6800GT OC PCIe Video Card

BFG suggested I needed a BIOS update, which has to wait till monday. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I have tried reinstalling the CPU and Fan.

Have you tried "barebones"? Just CPU, mem (one stick), and vid card. You should do this with the mobo removed from case. Plug in power supply, and jump the "on" connector with a screwdriver. If this doesn't work, you know one of these components is at fault.

Did the M/B come with the CMOS clear jumper set to clear to save the battery?

Yeh i would of said CMOS jumper as well.
Also check you have the P4 connector plugged in by the CPU most people who come to me miss that connector or in the case of newer machines that have mobo's with 24pin power connectors on the mobo instead of atx style 20pin they plug the p4 into the end of the mobo power socket making it upto 24.

Ideas that spring to mind:

1) You have used your old case but have left one of the brass "standoff" posts in a wrong position

2) You have not connected the additional P4 connector

3) Memory/slot configuration, some of these motherboards are quiet particular about which slots are utilized (depends on single sided/double side modules) see the chart in your handbook

4)Orientation of IDE and or Floppy ribbon cables

5)Poor power plug connection to motherboard (unplug and refit all connections)

6)Addon card or plugin periferal preventing boot (take setup back to bare minimum and clear cmos

7)Power supply failure on one rail

This board will work with an older 20pin PSU but you must use the additional P4 connector. I would advise a 20 to 24pin adapter cable or better still a new V2.0 PSU
Remember a 6800GT requires lots of power.
