We have a branch office located 1200 miles away. It is small, with about 8 people. Currently, each person has a POTS line as part of a Verizon package. They hate the phones and the "unintuitive" way they have to transfer calls to each other.

We are thinking about getting a better system for them. It needs to be extremely dependable, as most of their business is conducted by telephone, and the CEO has an office there. Would it be practical to set it up as part of our existing Definity G3si system? How would we connect the branch office to the main office dependably? Can we somehow put their phones in their local area code?

Would a separate system be better? What kind would you recommend for such small office?

As you can tell, I've never tried this before. Thanks for any ideas.

Alot of the solutions would depend on what type of network connectivity you have back to your main office. I'll defer to another member on if a G3si can support survivable processors. Also, I've found it's not always the amount of people in an office that dictates the footprint put in place, but who the actual users are.

you could have a g430 with a s8300d server , or even just the gateway with sls programmed with a direct ip trunk back to the GS3i , unfortunately im not that familiar with GS3i a memeber called ayayatier3 would be much more help to you.

But if upgrading the branch , my advice (of course budget depending ) would be to upgrade the lot for the amount of users you are talking about , each user under the area code would be easy enough but again its the capability's of the GS3i i cant answer with confidence.

you can as an example have your main office upgraded to CM 6.3 on a virtual server with a small gateway for dsp (low Cost hardware) migrate your existing licences accross from the GS3i put a small avaya gateway in the branch and have a really reliable solution for not much outlay , hey if comms is there core requirement then this upgrade may well pay for itself in a short period of time as there are things like session manager and sip trunks that could be implemented again virtually , but its all down to cost , where are you based ???

The main office is in Texas and the branch is near Washington, D.C.

Well whatever you decide can be built and tested in Dallas , the shipped to DC and plugged in , (by a compitent local avaya BP if you dont have the inhouse skills)
