Brainbench test for job

I worked for a company for 7 years learning FoxPro on the job. I have no formal training in programming. Now I am unemployed by choice and looking for a new job. A company is looking at potentially hiring me as a FoxPro developer but they want me to take a FoxPro Brainbench test. The only FoxPro brainbench I could find is 'Visual FoxPro 6.0'. I really want the job and don't want to base success or failure on a blind test. Any insight on how I can approach this to succeed without it being such an unknown? Has anyone ever taken the test as one user then retaken as another? I think this is all part of the game and I am confident in my development skills but I am not big on terminiology which I am afraid this test may be based on. At the same time I see the value in the brainbench certification on my resume as I have no college degree. Anyway.... would love to hear from others on this.

Regards,

Rob

Do you have any link to it?
I am too curious to see what they put in it.

I have not heard of any college or university offering a degree in FoxPro. I don't believe they teach Visual FoxPro actively except online or as an example of a legacy system. Visual FoxPro jobs these days are mostly supporting existing applications & conversion projects. I do not see much in the way of new FoxPro development projects. Most are moving or have moved to .NET. I am looking for a company to do supportive role and help them convert to .NET gradually. I don't have time to go to school at my age. I need to get back to work. The brainbench test from what I discovered today will not make or break me as they have already paid to fly me out. I am still going to do the best I can to prepare for the test and show them I care. The important thing for me is to be working with FoxPro as I really do love the language over .NET. Partially because its what I know and I am comfortable with. Another reason is because I love the command window and many other features not found in .NET. When I get the job I will definately get serious about certification in .NET however to make sure I don't have to travel across the country to get a job as I am doing now.

Rob

I wish you the very best.
Unfortunately all tests today are geared towards knowing “terminology”, never mind if you are a good programmer or not.
I have been programming for 20+ years, but would not know 90% of the acronyms people throw around these days. Hell, I know what fox can do, and refer to the help most of the time. IMO programmers who are 100% up-to-date with terminology become speakers and write books.
My advice to you would be taking a laptop with an application you have written and demonstrate it to the prospective employer. Sell yourself, I did it many moons ago and my name is on the registration system used by Bellagio, Treasure Island and lot of 5 star hotels in this country and Malaysia, as well as one of the largest (100+GB) pure VFP database in existence today, currently in use by the State of New York.

The BrainBench test is not hard. I took it for fun quite a while ago, so I don't remember the details, but if you've been actively working in VFP (and really using it as VFP, not FP2.x), you shouldn't have any trouble.
