Someone got into our switch configuration and reset the password. Now nobody knows what it is. Is their any way we could reset the password. It's alright if we have to reset the switch to it's defaults we have backup configurations. I heard that Nortel put a backdoor password that goes off to the MAC Address, so if anyone else has heard anything about that can you let me know.

It's a BPS2000 Switch running SW 2.5.2.04 FW 2.5.0.3

Thanks

1. Connect serial cable to DB-9, connect at 9600,8N1. Establish communication by typing control y to make sure that your cabling is correct. If you get no response, try a null modem cable.

2. Power down, then power up. During P.O.S.T., type control c.

3. Follow the menu to initialize. I forget the exact menu items, but you'll figure it out.

This will default the switch, but allow you to program it. Your software and firmware are old and should both be updated.

good luck.
