I have recently acquired a BPS2000 from a fire sale and would like to learn about it. I haven't been able to download a manual or figure out how to access it via the communication port. Hyper terminal doesn't connect and I'm not sure what else to use. Any leads on a manual would be great.

You prolly need a null modem adapter on your serial cable. 9600 8N1 I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

I bought a null modem cable and tried those settings but still got no response. Is there a keystroke to make it respond? Is there a way to reset it to default without logging in like on a mobo with a jumper inside?

Thank you for the link to the manuals. I've gone through them and am still having trouble connecting via comm port. I bought another null modem cable and didn't have any luck. Is there a way to connect via tcp/ip? The manual says a web browser can access the setup page but I'm not having any luck.

once you have set a IP address via the serial cable, you can telnet to that address. IF the previous owner set an address, you could change you network to match it

if this is previously owned they could have set the serial speed to another value I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

sorry about the null modem confusion, MOST network gear uses a null modem cable, but nortel does not. they use straight through. adding another null modem adapter to the null modem cable puts it back to straight through I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

What hyperterminal are you using ? I believe this is where you problem is .
what are your settings?

Make sure that you cable is a straight console cable.

Do you see the switch going through all its boot test when the switch is powered on ?

I use windows Hyperterminal and for most part i have not had any problems but if there are others that you should use to elimante that you your hyperterminal is of issue.
here is another hyperterminal that i use

Thank you for all your help so far. I finally got a link with the switch, but now it won't accept any keystrokes. It goes through it's boot up and then says "Enter Ctrl-Y to begin." and just sits there. I am using Hyperterminal with 9600 8N1 and VT100 Emulation.

You may want to default that switch.
If you power down the BPS2K and hit the {esc} key while its booting you will get a menu .Off hand i believe you need to press {i} to factory default.
If you went through a couple of different hyperterminal then i guess you may want to give this a try.

What OS are you using to connect to the switch?

I believe there was an issue with Win 2k and HyperTerminal, some keys would not work or would do something different than what they are supposed to do.
There is a patch already on MS.

I'm using XP. I tried the {esc} key and I don't get any response. I can see it boot up and go through it's tests, but I get no response from any keystroke. I verified the com port is good with an external modem and have tried both null modem and straight thru with the switch.

Thanks again for any help you can give me.

This is the message I get just before the "Enter CTL-Y to bedgin"

Decompressing the image ...
Target Name: vxTarget
User: target
Attaching network interface idtip0... done.
Attaching network interface lo0... done.

Is there a hidden password entry screen of something?

Thanks again
