Hi ,

We decommisioned a media server in the beginning of the year and were under the impression that all the processes had been done to ensure that restores could still take place from backups done by that media server.

We found a Technote labeled "How to build a MediaDB entry for tapes with valid images when the original MediaDB is missing"

step1 requires the following be run...
bpimagelist -media -idonly -server <decommissioned server>

but this bombs out because their is no host - it was decommissioned long ago.

Any ideas on how to restore this stuff

Run the following command:

bpimage -id <mediaid> -newserver <newmediaserver> -oldserver <oldmediaserver>

or add the following entry to your bp.conf file:
FORCE_RESTORE_MEDIA_SERVER = fromhost tohost

the fromhost is the server that origanally wrote the backup and the tohost is the server you want to use for the restore.

Sorry, I probably should have supplied more information,

I had already run..
bpimage -id <mediaid> -newserver <newmediaserver> -oldserver <oldmediaserver>

and had the setting FORCE_RESTORE_MEDIA_SERVER = fromhost tohost setup in the registry

but it wasn't working and out of desperation have tried the technote mentioned above
