I am trying to format a report with lots of data and I need certain cells to be shaded. I also need to have some vertical lines and boxes seperating the data. What is happening is that as the lines pass through the cell backgrounds they are overwritten by the background.

I have tried moving the cells to the back and the lines/boxes to the front with no results.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Data fields can be given shading and boxes.

What do you mean by cell? Are you using a crosstab? Are you using inserted boxes, lines or text boxes?

I am using actual lines and boxes (existing format) and the report actlually looks like a spreadsheet so I guess that is why I referred to it as a 'cell', it is actuall just a field with a background applied. I just wanted the line to show over the background.

Thanks

If you use a text box instead of an inserted line, and then format one of the borders to a single line, you will be able to place the line above the background.

The problem I had with using a text box with a vertical line was that one of the fields is "Can Grow" and it give me gaps in the line. The other issue with the text box is that the line didn't need to be at the edge of the field. It is an odd report but that is the format I have to match.[neutral]

I didn't originally mean for you to place any fields IN the text box, but just to overlay it on your fields. However, to make this work, add the field that can grow to the text box, and format the font to white. Format the left side of the text box to a single border. Then position the text box wherever you want the line to appear over the existing fields.

Have you tried to format the line so that it 'extends to bottom of Section when printing'? If you data can grows, then it is not a problem, your lines always extend to the bottom of your section.
