Bottle neck issue on sunfire v100

I am looking at installing a new mail server. There is a test perl script to run to check mail delivery. When I run it mail delivery is slow. How can I check to find out if it is a memory issue or an i/o issue with the hard disk? The perl script will finish but the system will still be delivering mail.
