I'm a newbie with a large problem. My CDRW and DVDRW both stopped functioning. The XP hardware manager indicates that both are working fine. I can physically open both drives, but when I attempt to use the drives, nothing can be read. I get a message such as "E:/ is not accessible. Incorrect function."

Any help would be appreciated.

Nope... I had a message to download SP2, but this error occurred right before that. I downloaded SP2 in hopes it might contain something that would correct the issue. Unfortunately your solution did not work. I got an error saying that it could not correct the autoplay problem.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

Remove the drives from device manager, uninstall your CD burning software, and reboot.

If you have Roxio, search the web for help on removing the Lower and Upper filters out of the registry which can corrupt settings for the drives.

After rebooting try your drives again before reinstalling any software.

Did you recently make any hardware configuration changes, like moving drives from IDE channel to another?
