I have a new phone firmware to push out to all of my IP phones (DT 700). There is a way to upload the new firmware file to the SV8500 phone system itself, and it will then push it out to all the IP phones.
So following the steps in the manual, I uploaded the firmware file to the system and activated the feature.
I had it run for about half an hour - this was just a test run to see how it goes. I limited a number of simultaneous updates to 5 (max 5 phones at a time can download their new firmware).
I don't have an exact count yet, but many phones have successfully updated their firmware. However, 4 of them failed. Now they just say "Initializing" for about 5 seconds, then they turn off and back on and say "Initializing" again. And this cycle goes again and again...

While I don't know why this occurred (probably user disconnected the phone in the middle of the download), but now I'm trying to find out if there is a way to rescue these phones, or if they are bricked.

If you cannot get into the service/maintenance mode in the phone then it may be unusable. Try to boot it up with the LAN cord unplugged using a power brick.

Thank you belevedere.

They do the same with the power-bricks. Intitialize-Intitialize-Intitialize-Intitialize-....

It looks like a corrupted flash while attempting to upgrade. They probably need to go back to NEC for repair/replacement.
