this may sound crazy but would someone please post a message for my boss telling why i can't get his website ranked in the top ten on google within a month's time. it's a website with over 300 pages selling over 4000 products. it's huge. i've tried to explain to him that individual pages are ranked and the overall ranking of a website doesn't mean much, and that it takes months even if you have the pages optimized correctly for the big engines to index you and change your pages ranks. problem is he doesn't want to spend much money on advertising. unless i'm completely wrong, please help before this man fires me due to impatience. tnx :)

300 pages could take 8 to 12 months before all the pages are crawled by Google and even longer (if ever) with the pace of Yahoo, if you aren't paying per url that is! And that depends on all pages being only 2 clicks from the home page. The crawlers will go deeper but need a lot of incentive (Good links, Fresh Content etc. PR helps a little here with google).

I'd suggest having a lurk at IHY or HR and look at the threads there about dynamic sites. You should find something there to convince him.
