I'm trying to decide which simulator to get. I'm studying for my CCNA, but plan on CCNP next year. The NetSim CCNA 6.0 is $150, the CCNP Beta is $250, you get the full version when it is released. Also, they have a "Complete Kit" for CCNA that includes the 6.0 plus 3 ExSims for $250. Money is tight for me right now. Has anyone tried the CCNP? What are your recommendations?

Also, does anyone have a discount on these? I found the NetSim 5.0 for a good bit less on a couple of sites, but I'd rather get the latest version.

Thanks a bunch!

phonebiz,

You can download a FREE demo of both the CCNA and the CCNP sim from Boson.

I would just download them see what you think and if you like them. I will say Boson is the best out there right now.

I have used the CCNA version they jointly did for Cisco Press - it was great, I have downloaded the CCNP version and played with it and like it, but that is me.

As for the ones on Ebay - I have read the fine print on most the sims and you do not have a right to sell them or transfer ownership. Issues could come up if you try to add a patch or try to upgrade. Just buyer beware!!!

Normally companies like Boson will give a good discount when you upgrade after being a good customer.

You could also check prices on the competition and then just ask them if they can beat the price of routersim or Cisco Press.

Also just one note on CCNA and CCNP - sims are great but try to get some real routers or some rack time on a rack of real routers online. Nothing like working your own lab unless you have hands on access at work.

Hope this helps!
