Hello everybody,

i'm having a little problem. I can't seem to get the install working of Borland 3.1++. When i start the install file, i get this this error:

"ERROR: Not enough memory to execute Install. Requires at least 460KB
Please remove any TSR's and retry."

I also can't get Wolfenstein 3d to work. And thats also the same problem. The memory. Thank you for taking your time by reading this.

Dennis ;)

Well, Wolfenstein definitely works under Virtual PC because Microsoft's Virtual PC Guy wrote a blog post about it.

I think that your problems are down to your DOS configuration rather than your Virtual PC settings. I have only vague memories of the hoops you used to have to jump through to free up base memory in DOS, forcing things to load in the upper/extended/expanded memory area.

If you're not a DOS expert I'd try Googling how to free up base memory under DOS and try out some of the suggestions.

Sounds like you need to optimize memory under DOS. Take a look here for help:

You will need to modify a DOS file. The file is config.sys. Here you enter commands to optimize memory, load drivers, etc. The site I listed above has an explanation of how it's done.

You might also consider using a program called QEMM. It was a memory manager that freed up as much or more memory than DOS could. You'll have to do some searching for it (Orginally came on 3 3 1/2" floppies!)
try here for a download: Once installed in DOS, I *THINK* there was a program you ran from the command line that would optimize the memory.

Ahhh... the good old days ..LOL
