Border Around Graphic?

I need to put a 2- or 4-point black border around a graphic, and then make a drop shadow. No problem with the drop shadow, but is there a way to put a border around a graphic without going through the canvas resize route? Thx.

If I'm understanding you correctly, making a new square the same size as your graphic should do the trick. (No fill, with a 2 or 4 pixel stroke).
