I have a PowerMac G4 Titanium 867mhz running OSX tiger 10.47. Recently I have been seeing the spinning rainbow a lot. Today I installed the gmail notifier tool from Google and tried to reboot but everytime OSX displayed the logon interface the machine froze giving this message "you need to restart your computer". Now I wanted to reinstall OSX but I couldn't get to the appropriate screen.I tried holding down the "c" key, when that also failed I tried to reset the PRAM by holding down the option+command+P+R keys still no show.I need help desperately.Thank you.

If you have them, try booting from the install cds that came with the computer. If that works, you can then do thr upgrade to 10.4.

You might also try unplugging and replugging your keyboard and mouse. Then try the C key start. Depending on your machine, this can take some time so be patient.

You can also try starting in "safe" mode by holding down the shift key immediately after the start chime and release when you (if) you see the progress bar thing.

You can also try inserting the cd and holding down the Option key on start, Depending on yur machine, you get a "select startup disk" window. This does not work on all machines.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

I tried using all the keys to no avail. What I did next was install another hard drive made it master and the errant original system drive slave.I reinstalled OS Tiger and and accessed my old data that way. Thank you jmgalvin.
